Former President Goodluck Jonathan Mourns Hajiya Dada Yar’Adua: A Personal Loss

Katsina, Nigeria – Former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has expressed profound grief over the passing of Hajiya Dada Yar’Adua, describing her death as a significant personal loss. Jonathan, who visited the Yar’Adua family in Katsina on Saturday, revealed that Hajiya Dada was instrumental in shaping his political career.
During his visit, Jonathan emotionally recounted the impact of Hajiya Dada on his life. “This woman technically made me who I am,” he said. “It was her son, Umaru Yar’Adua, who brought me on board as his running mate. Without her, you wouldn’t have known my name. So she was like a mother to me, and her death feels like losing my own mother.”
Jonathan, who was en route to Kigali, Rwanda, when he learned of Hajiya Dada’s passing, adjusted his travel plans to pay his respects. He returned to Nigeria on Friday specifically to attend the condolence visit in Katsina.
“This is a very sad moment for all of us,” Jonathan stated. “Upon hearing the news in Addis Ababa, I felt it was crucial to be here in Katsina to offer my condolences.”
He extended heartfelt sympathies on behalf of himself, his team, his community, and the people of his state. “She was a mother to many of us. Though we mourn her loss, we find solace in the fact that Allah has blessed her with a long life, which signifies acceptance and grace.”

Hajiya Dada Yar’Adua, the matriarch of the prominent Yar’Adua family, was remembered for her nurturing role and her significant influence on Nigerian politics through her children.
It was nice that Ex President Jonathan has to go and pay his last respect on the death of his mentors mother.
