Gwaram, Jigawa State In a decisive move to enhance road safety and curb the rising number of traffic crashes, Chief Route Commander Mohammed M. Birnin kudu, QAA, the Acting Unit Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), has rolled out a comprehensive strategy to tackle the menace of road accidents in Gwaram Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
The veteran road safety officer, known for his dedication and strategic leadership, has initiated multiple community-driven interventions aimed at fostering road safety awareness and compliance. His plan includes:
√Early morning advocacy (Morning Cry) in motor parks to sensitize commercial drivers and passengers.
√Engagements with religious institutions such as mosques and churches to spread the message of responsible road use.
√School visits to educate students on road safety from a young age.
√Free driver training programs to improve skills and enhance compliance with traffic regulations.
√Town hall meetings in Gwaram, Sara, and Zandam Nagode for direct interaction with residents.
√Regular dialogues with motor unions and motorcycle associations to enforce safety rules.
√Social media campaigns and radio programs to amplify awareness across a broader audience.

Commander Birninkudu has already begun executing these initiatives, starting with a successful seminar at the Evangelical Church of West Africa (ECWA), where he educated congregants on the leading causes of road crashes in the region. During the session, he identified overloading of goods, passengers, and even animals, excessive speeding, and the use of expired tires as major risk factors contributing to frequent accidents.
To reinforce the impact of this initiative, the Unit Commander has called on religious leaders to support the FRSC’s mission by spreading safety messages within their congregations.
