Gombe Governor Signs Historic Electricity Law, Paving Way for State’s Energy Revolution
By Editor In-Chief
In a significant development, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has signed the Gombe State Electricity Producing Act 2025 into law, marking a major milestone in the state’s quest for energy self-sufficiency. This move empowers Gombe State to generate, transmit, and distribute electricity within its borders, leveraging its vast energy resources to drive economic growth and development.
The Gombe State Electricity Processing Act 2025 establishes two key institutions: the Gombe State Electricity Commission and the Gombe State Power Commission (GSERC). These agencies will oversee the production, transmission, and distribution of electricity across the state, promoting private sector investment and cooperation. The law also enables the state to monitor electricity supply, from generation to consumption, ensuring efficient service delivery.
Gombe State’s decision to harness its energy resources comes on the heels of the 2023 Electric Power Provision Act signed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which encourages states to create their own electricity generation and transmission systems. With its existing Dadandowa power station contributing 40 megawatts to the national grid, Gombe State is poised to optimize its energy potential. The state also boasts significant petroleum and gas reserves, offering opportunities for industrial growth and renewable energy development.
This development is expected to attract investors, such as Three Ace Technologies, which plans to generate 150 megawatts of solar power for industries and merchants in the state. The Gombe State Government’s commitment to completing the Muhammadu Buhari Administration’s Industrial Campaign in Dadinkowa, with a N5 billion investment, further underscores its dedication to economic development.
Commissioner of Energy and Conservatives, Sanusi Ahmed Pindiga, highlighted that the new law is not only a response to federal government directives but also a strategic move towards self-reliance, sustainable development, and economic growth. “Gombe State’s Electricity Province 2025 has become a major development in Inuwa Yahaya government’s efforts to transform the state’s energy supply system, strengthen the state’s community, and develop long-term industries,” he stated.
With this law, Gombe State is set to become a model for energy self-sufficiency in Nigeria. As the state embarks on this new journey, citizens can expect improved electricity supply, increased investment opportunities, and enhanced economic growth. The Gombe State Government’s vision for a sustainable energy future is a welcome development, and its impact will likely be felt across the state in the years to come.
Gombe State’s energy potential is not limited to electricity generation. The state’s petroleum and gas reserves offer opportunities for industrial growth, while its renewable energy potential can support sustainable development. As the state explores these opportunities, it is likely to attract more investors and create jobs, driving economic growth and development.
