Kano State, April 1, 2025 – Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano has extended his heartfelt gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Edo State Governor, Sen. Monday Okpebholo, for their quick response and support following the tragic killings of 16 Kano indigents in Udene, Uromi Local Government Area, Edo State.

On behalf of the people of Kano, especially the bereaved families from Toranke, Governor Yusuf commended the Federal Government delegation and Governor Okpebholo for their solidarity and swift action in visiting Kano. The visit was a symbol of concern over the tragic incident, where 16 hunters from Kano lost their lives.

Governor Yusuf expressed deep sorrow over the killings, emphasizing that justice must not only be done but seen to be done. He called for a transparent legal process, including a public parade of the arrested suspects, to ensure that justice is fully served for the victims’ families.

“We appreciate the efforts made so far, but justice must be transparent. The people of Kano, and all Nigerians, deserve to see the perpetrators of this massacre brought to justice,” Governor Yusuf said.

The Kano Governor also praised Governor Okpebholo’s proactive approach to engaging the Hausa community in Edo State, aiming to prevent further escalation of tensions. Governor Okpebholo’s commitment to compensating the bereaved families was also noted.

“The promised compensation is an important step, but it must be implemented without delay to assist the grieving families who have lost their breadwinners,” Governor Yusuf added.

In addition, Governor Yusuf expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his swift directive to security agencies to apprehend and prosecute the perpetrators of the Uromi killings. This quick action underscores the federal government’s commitment to the security and well-being of all Nigerians, regardless of their state of origin.

The people of Toranke, where most of the victims hailed from, have also expressed appreciation for the concerted efforts of both the Edo State Government and the Federal Government in addressing the tragedy.

Both Governors Yusuf and Okpebholo committed to ensuring a thorough, transparent justice process and preventing such incidents from occurring in the future.

The Kano State Government remains steadfast in its pursuit of justice, ensuring that the victims’ families receive the compensation and treatment they deserve.
