In a bid to leverage the wealth of experience and knowledge of retired journalists, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Jigawa State Council has established a Veterans Committee. The committee, chaired by renowned journalist and media strategist Comrade Mati Ali, aims to promote mentorship, knowledge sharing, and welfare of veteran journalists.

Comrade Mati Ali, a seasoned journalist with nearly four decades of experience, brings a wealth of knowledge to the committee. Currently serving as the Personal Assistant on Media and Publicity to the Honourable Minister of Defence, Ali has held various leadership positions, including Chairman of the NUJ Jigawa State Council and National Trustee. His tenure as Managing Director of Radio Jigawa further solidifies his expertise in media management.

The committee’s members include:

  1. Habibu Nuhu Kila, a veteran journalist with extensive experience in reporting and editing.
  2. Fahad Muhammad, a seasoned journalist with a strong background in investigative reporting.
  3. Salmanu Adamu Rishi, a respected journalist with expertise in feature writing and analysis.
  4. Muhammad Hussaini Kwalam, who serves as the committee’s secretary, bringing his expertise in news reporting and editing.

According to Comrade Aisha Ahmed, Secretary of the NUJ Jigawa State Council, the Veterans Committee will serve as an advisory body and mentorship hub, focusing on the welfare and recognition of veteran journalists. The committee will also organize knowledge-sharing programs, mentorship initiatives, and provide guidance on integrating veterans into NUJ activities and honors.

This initiative underscores the NUJ Jigawa State Council’s commitment to promoting journalistic excellence and fostering a strong, intergenerational professional community. By harnessing the experience and expertise of veteran journalists, the committee is poised to make a significant impact on the media landscape in Jigawa State.

Under Comrade Mati Ali’s leadership, the Veterans Committee is expected to make a meaningful contribution to the NUJ Jigawa State Council. The committee’s vision is to create a platform where veteran journalists can share their knowledge, experience, and insights with younger journalists, promoting excellence in journalism and strengthening the profession.
