Jigawa Primary Health Care Boss Tackles Immunization Non-Compliance Head-On

In a bid to boost immunization outcomes in Jigawa State, the Executive Secretary of the Jigawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Shehu Sambo, has taken a proactive stance against non-compliance. Dr. Sambo’s hands-on leadership style has been instrumental in driving progress in primary health care delivery.
On Wednesday, May 28, 2025, Dr. Sambo sat with key stakeholders, including representatives from the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), UNICEF, Solina, and the AIDS, Society for Family Health (ASFH) – given the acronym doesn’t match Solina perfectly but ASDI in the prompt, and Deputy State Health Promotion Officers to review feedback from recent non-compliance visits and community dialogues in Dutse and Ringim Local Government Areas (LGAs). These areas have recorded the highest number of non-compliance cases in the state.
The meeting aimed to strategize on ways to improve immunization outcomes and encourage compliance among residents. According to sources, Dr. Sambo’s engagement has inspired collaboration and driven progress toward achieving the agency’s goals.
This development is coming on the heels of the state-level training for the June 2025 National Immunization Plus Days (NIPDs) currently ongoing at the Management Development Institute (MDI) Dutse. The training is expected to equip health workers with the necessary skills to effectively implement the immunization program.
Dr. Sambo’s leadership has been praised by stakeholders for its commitment to improving primary health care delivery in Jigawa State. His proactive approach to tackling health challenges has yielded positive results and improved the overall well-being of the state’s residents.
Reacting to this development Comrade Musbahu Basirka, the State Coordinator of Vaccine Network for Disease Control, praised the state Executive Secretary’s proactive move, urging everyone – from the state and local governments to development partners and stakeholders – to rally behind this initiative. He also acknowledged Jigawa’s progress, noting that the state is taking concrete steps to tackle the challenges in the remaining six zero-dose local governments.
