In a bid to revamp the Sharia court system and enhance justice delivery, Jigawa State Grand Kadi, Hon. Kadi Muhammad Sani Salihu, embarked on an unannounced inspection tour of Sharia courts across Hadejia, Kafin Hausa, and Auyo towns on July 9, 2025. The tour was aimed at assessing the operational performance of the courts and evaluating the condition of court structures and facilities within the zone.

According to Abbas Rufa’i Wangara, Director Publicity & Protocol, State Judiciary, the Grand Kadi’s visit underscores the commitment of the Shari’a Court of Appeal to ensuring the efficient administration of justice, upholding high standards within the Sharia court system, and addressing infrastructural needs.

Assessment and Evaluation

During the tour, the Grand Kadi engaged with court staff, including Sharia Court Alkalis/judges and supporting personnel, to discuss case management, workflow efficiency, challenges faced in daily operations, and the physical state of court buildings and amenities. Hon. Kadi Muhammad Sani Salihu emphasized the importance of ensuring the effective service delivery to the people, stating that “the well-being of our courts and the effectiveness of their service to the people are paramount.”

The inspection team, which included Chief Registrar Shari’a Court of Appeal Barr. Kabiru Abubakar Gumel, Chief Inspector Shari’a Courts Barr. Abdulrasheed Al’asan, Deputy Chief Inspector Hadejia Zone Mallam Jibril Mohammed Mustapha, and Internal Auditor Shari’a Court Bello Abdulwahab, was tasked with identifying areas for improvement in both judicial processes and the working environment.

Commitment to Excellence

The Grand Kadi’s proactive approach to addressing infrastructural needs and promoting effective case management is expected to lead to improvements in the Sharia court system, enhancing access to justice for citizens in Jigawa State. As Abbas Rufa’i Wangara noted, “The Grand Kadi’s visit demonstrates his commitment to driving reforms and improving the justice system in Jigawa State.”
