Dutse, Jigawa – April 30, 2025: In a landmark move towards enhancing youth empowerment and professional development, the Jigawa State Government has officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN). This strategic partnership aims to nurture the next generation of accountants through the innovative ICAN Students’ Special Project (SSP).

At the MoU signing ceremony, which was attended by key stakeholders, Deputy Governor Engr. Aminu Usman represented Governor Malam Umar Namadi. He highlighted the MoU’s significance, stating it marks a decisive step in the government’s dedication to building human capital and fostering skill development in accounting and financial management.
“The training program for students involved in special projects is set to enhance their skills and knowledge in key financial disciplines,” Usman noted. He added, “The establishment of the ICAN Student Special Project Centre in Dutse underscores our government’s unwavering commitment to equipping our youth with essential skills and knowledge that will drive economic growth in Jigawa State.”
The Deputy Governor also expressed gratitude to ICAN for their spirit of collaboration, which he believes is crucial for economic progress. “ICAN’s engagement with the government and other stakeholders is commendable and vital for shaping the future of the accounting profession in Jigawa State.”
Meanwhile, ICAN President Chief Davidson Chizuoke S. Alaribe praised the state government for its ongoing commitment to youth development. “Your administration’s consistent support for youth initiatives—like partnering with ICAN to sponsor young professionals for the ICAN examination—opens pathways for remarkable professional and personal growth,” he stated.
The ICAN Students’ Special Project (SSP) aims to empower aspiring accountants, particularly from educationally disadvantaged regions. Chief Alaribe explained the initiative’s goals: “Through scholarships and local training centers, we are breaking barriers and providing the necessary support for these young minds to pursue professional accounting certification.”
He encouraged beneficiaries of the initiative to remain dedicated and resilient in their journey towards professionalism. “Let these principles guide you as you prepare to join the esteemed community of ICAN professionals. This is your launchpad for greater achievements, and we are here to support you every step of the way.”
