In a bold move to revolutionize its agricultural sector, Jigawa State Governor, Mallam Umar Namadi, has flagged off the departure of 30 newly recruited master technicians to China for specialized training in agricultural mechanization. This initiative is part of the state’s broader strategy to modernize agriculture and enhance productivity through advanced technology and capacity building.

The 30 technicians, all engineering graduates with agricultural engineering backgrounds, will undergo six to eight weeks of training in agricultural equipment maintenance and operation. Upon their return, they will be equipped to manage service centers and maintain machinery, playing a crucial role in the state’s agricultural modernization program.

To facilitate this transformation, the state government has established 60 service centers across the state and appointed a managing director for the Jigawa State Farm Mechanization Program. The program has also procured 300 tractors, 60 combine harvesters, disc ploughs, sprayers, and other essential farm implements, with 65% of the payment already made.

The Jigawa Agricultural Mechanization Support System (JAMSS) aims to train 2,726 individuals in various specializations, creating approximately 8,000 indirect jobs and servicing a minimum of 180,000 hectares annually. This initiative is expected to position Jigawa as a leader in agricultural innovation in Nigeria.

As Governor Namadi emphasized, “This is not just about agriculture; it is about building a legacy. By modernizing agriculture, we are securing the future of Jigawa State and creating opportunities for generations to come.
