Sule Tankarkar, Jigawa State (October 12, 2024) – A horrifying incident has shocked the community of Mu’azu town in Sule Tankarkar, Jigawa State, as a 26-year-old man, Nura Mas’udu, tragically set his grandmother on fire. The motive behind the heinous act is believed to stem from Mas’udu’s frustration over his grandmother’s disapproval of his marriage plans.
According to reports, Mas’udu had been exhibiting signs of mental instability, although a formal diagnosis had not been established. Frustrated by his grandmother’s opposition to his marriage and her persistent inquiries about his well-being, Mas’udu resorted to violence. He purchased petrol and matches and intentionally set his grandmother on fire while his father was present. Despite his father’s desperate attempts to get help from neighbors, the flames quickly spread, and the grandmother succumbed to her injuries on the way to the hospital.
The local government chairman, Hon. Tasiu Adamu, visited the scene of the incident to express his condolences and offer support to the victim’s family. The matter has been handed over to the police for a thorough investigation.
The Jigawa State police command has confirmed the incident and is currently conducting investigations into the circumstances surrounding the arson attack.
