Kano Governor Creates New Ministries to Combat Insecurity

Kano State, Nigeria (September 10, 2024) – Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has taken a significant step to address the challenges of violent extremism, banditry, and kidnapping in Kano State by creating two new ministries.
During a visit from a delegation from the National Counter Terrorism Centre and ActionAid Nigeria, Governor Yusuf announced the establishment of the Ministry of Humanitarian and Poverty Eradication and the Ministry of Internal Security and Special Services.
These new ministries will play a crucial role in the state’s efforts to combat insecurity and provide assistance to vulnerable populations. The Ministry of Humanitarian and Poverty Eradication will focus on addressing humanitarian needs and poverty, while the Ministry of Internal Security and Special Services will work in conjunction with federal agencies to combat crime and extremism.
Governor Yusuf emphasized that the creation of these ministries is part of a comprehensive strategy to tackle the root causes of violence and crime in Kano State. He highlighted other initiatives, such as empowerment programs for women and youth and a state of emergency in the education sector, that are aimed at reducing crime and building community resilience.
The delegation from the National Counter Terrorism Centre and ActionAid Nigeria expressed their support for the Governor’s efforts and pledged to collaborate with the state government to enhance existing initiatives. They highlighted the success of their project consortium, SARVE III, in building community resilience against violent extremism in Kano State.
Governor Yusuf’s decision to create these new ministries demonstrates his commitment to addressing the pressing security challenges facing Kano State and ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens.
