Kano Governor Yusuf Calls for Responsible Media Discourse, Prioritizes State Image

Kano, Nigeria – Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has urged media commentators and political program presenters to champion the interests of Kano State and embody principles of dignity, unity, and religious harmony in their public discussions. The Governor’s appeal came during the closing of a two-day sensitization workshop organized by the Kano State Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs in collaboration with the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC).

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim, Governor Yusuf commended the initiative for uniting diverse media voices. He acknowledged their crucial role in accurately reflecting the realities within the state and offering constructive feedback to the government.
Governor Yusuf stressed the collective responsibility of all stakeholders, including parents, traditional leaders, community figures, religious leaders, and the general public, in safeguarding the state’s reputation and promoting values that foster social unity and religious tolerance.

He also expressed his gratitude to the Gauta Club for bestowing upon him an Award of Honour, viewing it as an encouraging sign for good governance and inclusive engagement.
The Honourable Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, lauded the participants for their active engagement, which contributed significantly to the workshop’s success. He cautioned them against being manipulated to tarnish the reputation of others through media platforms, emphasizing that such actions would not be condoned and could lead to severe repercussions.

Comrade Waiya underscored the significance of mutual respect and professionalism among political media commentators, irrespective of their political affiliations. He reaffirmed the Ministry’s dedication to upholding ethical standards and promoting public awareness.
The Commissioner also conveyed his appreciation to Governor Yusuf for his unwavering support in ensuring the workshop’s successful execution.
The workshop featured insightful presentations on crucial topics, including “Commentary on Court Judgments Regarding Platforms of Defamation” by Alkali Abdullahi Abdu Waiya, “Staying Within the Lines: Legal Boundaries, Defamation Laws, and Penalties in Political Broadcasting” by Professor Nuhu Idris, and “Radio Political Programming in Kano: An Independent Assessment” by Dr. Saminu Umar Rijiyar Zaki.
A highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of the 2025 Award of Honour by the Gauta Club to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, recognizing his exceptional service and commitment to the progress of Kano State.
Commissioner Waiya also received an Award of Honour from the Gauta Club for his instrumental role in revitalizing the club and in recognition of his leadership and service to the state.
The Commissioner concluded the event by presenting certificates of attendance to all the workshop participants.
