The Kano Peace Committee (KPC) has expressed deep appreciation for the leadership of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Kano State Branch, for demonstrating maturity and responsibility by halting plans for a mass action. This decision followed the intervention of the Executive Governor of Kano State, Engineer Abba Kabir Yusuf, in a recent dispute involving a medical doctor allegedly assaulted while on duty in one of the state’s hospitals.

The incident, which led to calls by the NMA for the dismissal of Hajiya Amina Abdullahi Sani, the Honorable Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, had escalated tensions between the NMA and state officials. However, in a commendable gesture of peace and cooperation, the NMA has responded to Governor Yusuf’s appeal by suspending their intended mass action.

In an official statement signed by Ibrahim Waiya, the KPC expressed appreciation for the NMA’s decision, highlighting the association’s “high sense of maturity, responsibility, and commitment to humanity.” The Committee also lauded Governor Yusuf for his “exemplary leadership and judicious handling of the matter,” which facilitated the peaceful resolution.

“The Kano Peace Committee shares in the pain of the affected medical personnel, recognizing the sacrifices our healthcare professionals make for the people of Kano State,” said Amb. Ibrahim Waiya, Convener and Head of the KPC Secretariat. “We pray that the Almighty rewards their dedication and that their selfless contributions are duly acknowledged and reciprocated.”

The KPC reiterated its gratitude to the NMA leadership in Kano State for reconsidering their stance on mass action, underscoring the importance of prioritizing ethical values and practices in the medical field. The Committee urged all involved parties to continue in their shared commitment to serving humanity and saving lives, and noted that such sacrifice deserves mutual respect and recognition.
