Kano State Banned “Tashe” Cracks Down on Thuggery: 28 Arrested, Traditional Performance

In a bid to ensure a peaceful Ramadan, the Kano State Government Task Force Committee on Peace Restoration and Youth Rehabilitation has arrested 28 suspected thugs (Yan Daba) and recovered dangerous weapons and illicit drugs. The joint security operations, conducted between March 3rd and 13th, 2025, were carried out at strategic locations within Kano Metropolis after intelligence reports indicated plans for thuggery-related activities during the holy month of Ramadan.

Recovered Exhibits
- 283 parcels and 14 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Cannabis Sativa
- 1 cutlass
- 3 scissors
- 1 pointed-iron
- 2 bottles of “suck and die”
- 13 packets of Knockout
- 1 rubber solution
The suspects have been charged to Chief Magistrate Court Number 12, Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) for prosecution.

Ban on Traditional Performance “Tashe”
To maintain peace and order during Ramadan, the Task Force Committee has restated the Kano State Government ban on all forms of Traditional Performance “Tashe” characterized by thuggery-related activities. The use of Knockouts or bangers is also prohibited, and violators will be dealt with according to the law.
Committee Chairman’s Appreciation
The Chairman of the committee, Hon. Yusuf Ibrahim Kofarmata, Ph.D., has appreciated the commitment of the officers involved in the operations and called on law-abiding citizens to cooperate with the Police and other law enforcement agencies to achieve a safer and more secure Kano State.
In a statement signed by committee public relation officer and Hon. Commissioner of Information Ambassador Ibrahim Waiya, said this development comes as the Kano State Taskforce on Peace Restoration and Youth Rehabilitation intensifies efforts to combat drug abuse and thuggery in the state. The committee has been working closely with stakeholders, including the NDLEA, NSCDC, and the Emir of Kano, to address the root causes of youth restiveness and promote peace and stability in the state.
