In a pivotal moment for Yobe’s civil society sector, Mohammed Baba Kuchichi has been elected as the new Chairman of the Network of Yobe Civil Society Organizations (NYCSO). The election, held on Wednesday at the NUJ Secretariat, witnessed robust participation from various civil society representatives across the state, heralding a new era of leadership and commitment to social change.

Expressing his satisfaction with the smooth electoral process, Kuchichi noted that while only two of the 16 available positions were contested, the overwhelming support for unopposed candidates illustrated the unity and collaboration within the network. “The sportsmanship displayed among all contestants was commendable, and I declare this election a resounding success,” Kuchichi stated.

As he steps into his new role, Kuchichi shared his ambitious vision for the NYCSO, aiming to enhance the visibility of member organizations and strengthen collaborations with governmental agencies at both state and local levels. He believes that fostering these partnerships will empower the network to create a more significant impact on community development. Kuchichi emphasized, “We want to cultivate a sense of belonging among civil society organizations in Nigeria. For our current partners, we will work to strengthen our ties, and for those not yet part of our network, we extend a hand of friendship to build fruitful collaborations.”

The election results were announced by Faruk Abdullahi Chiromari, the Chairman of the NYCSO 2025 Electoral Committee, who oversaw the voting, sorting, and counting processes. Alongside Kuchichi, the newly elected officials include key leaders such as Ali Gambo Tarbutu as Deputy Executive Director of Programs, Kudirat Khashim as Deputy Executive Director of Administration, and Musa Garba as Head of General Administration, among others.

In terms of their respective roles, the talented team comprises specialists from various fields, including Dr. Zara Yusuf Ahmed leading Emergency, Humanitarian, and Development Services, Ibrahim Babangida Imam overseeing Education Program, and Dr. Muazu Adamu managing Health and WASH initiatives. The leadership also emphasizes youth empowerment, gender inclusion, advocacy, and public affairs, ensuring a comprehensive approach to the community’s pressing needs.

Kuchichi’s election is not just a change in leadership; it represents a renewed commitment to fostering a cooperative environment within Yobe’s civil society and beyond. As NYCSO embarks on this new journey, stakeholders and community members alike are hopeful that Kuchichi’s leadership will catalyze impactful initiatives that resonate with the needs and aspirations of the local populace.

Through strategic partnerships and inclusive programming, Kuchichi aims to elevate the network’s contributions to sustainable development, underscoring the critical role civil society plays in Nigeria’s growth narrative. This election marks a significant milestone in the evolution of NYCSO, setting the stage for transformative collaboration across the state.
