Lagos Assembly is a Private Enterprise- Bode Gorge

Bode George, a prominent Nigerian politician, has sparked controversy with his statement that the Lagos State House of Assembly operates like a private enterprise, where the “owner” hires and fires at will. This comment comes on the heels of the recent impeachment of former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa and the election of Mojisola Meranda as the new Speaker.
The Lagos Assembly has been in the news lately, with Obasa’s impeachment citing allegations of abuse of office and gross misconduct. The lawmakers elected Meranda, the representative of Apapa I, as the new speaker, making her the first female speaker in the history of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
In response to George’s comments, the Lagos Assembly has defended its actions, stating that over two-thirds of its members support Meranda’s leadership and are committed to defending their positions. This suggests that George’s comments may not accurately reflect the dynamics at play within the legislative body.
It’s worth noting that Bode George has been vocal about his concerns regarding the ownership of Lagos State, calling it a “shameful” and “embarrassing” debate. However, his latest comments have sparked a new wave of controversy, with many questioning the accuracy of his statements.
