Niger Junta Accuses Nigeria of Colluding with France, Adviser Claims “Despicable Propaganda”

Abuja, Nigeria – Tensions between Nigeria and Niger Republic escalated sharply following serious accusations leveled by the Nigerien military junta against the Nigerian government. Led by General Abdourahamane Tchiani, the junta alleged that Nigeria is colluding with France to destabilize Niger Republic.
Tchiani made a series of grave claims, asserting that France is actively facilitating negotiations between terrorist groups operating within Nigeria and seeking to destabilize his regime. Furthermore, he alleged that France had made a substantial financial payment to Nigerian President Bola Tinubu to establish a military base in Nigeria, ostensibly to counter the junta’s growing influence.
The Nigerian government swiftly and vehemently rejected these accusations. Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, dismissed the claims as “despicable propaganda” aimed at inciting northerners against President Tinubu. He emphasized that the allegations were baseless and designed to sow discord within Nigeria.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, echoed this sentiment, categorically denying any alliance with France to destabilize Niger Republic. He reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to regional peace and stability.
Analysts suggest that these accusations may be a strategic maneuver by the Nigerien junta to divert attention from internal challenges and consolidate its power. The situation remains highly volatile, with the potential for further escalation in the already strained relationship between the two neighboring countries.
