Aminu Alhassan Dantata, one of Nigeria’s most prominent businessmen, has pledged a generous donation of N1.5 billion to support victims of the recent devastating floods in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State in northeastern Nigeria.
The 96-year-old billionaire led a delegation from Kano State to Borno State Government House on Tuesday, where he expressed his condolences to Governor Babagana Zulum and the people of Borno State, particularly those who lost loved ones in the floods.
Dantata’s philanthropic gesture comes amid widespread suffering caused by the floods, which have displaced thousands and resulted in significant loss of life and property. The businessman, who is known for his extensive business interests and philanthropy, has been a vocal critic of Nigeria’s economic challenges.
In his remarks, Dantata decried the deteriorating state of Nigeria’s economy and called on political leaders to prioritize the needs of the people. He urged them to fear God in their dealings.
Governor Zulum expressed his gratitude for Dantata’s visit and donation, describing it as a testament to the spirit of solidarity among Nigerians during times of crisis.
