In a strategic move to foster regional development, the North West Governors’ Forum convened a high-level meeting with key development partners, including the United Nations (UN) and the African Development Bank (AfDB).

The meeting, attended by the Deputy Secretary-General of the UN, Hajia Amina J. Mohammed, focused on strengthening partnerships to tackle socio-economic challenges in the North West region of Nigeria

Key Highlights of the Meeting

1. UN Agencies’ Engagement: Representatives of various UN agencies in Nigeria made presentations outlining their ongoing and planned interventions in the region. These initiatives aim to enhance economic growth, security, and social development.

2. AfDB’s Investment in Agriculture & Industrialization: The African Development Bank (AfDB) provided updates on the implementation of the National Agricultural Growth Scheme (NAGS) Phase II and the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones Program (SAP-Z). Kaduna State is among the early beneficiaries of the SAP-Z initiative, while the second phase will extend to other North West states, enhancing agricultural productivity and industrialization.

3. Appointment of a Director General for the Forum: A major outcome of the meeting was the appointment of Hajia Maryam Musa as the substantive Director General of the North West Governors’ Forum. She will oversee the coordination of the Forum’s activities, liaise with development partners, and ensure effective implementation of projects across the region.

Driving Sustainable Growth in the North West This collaborative effort signals a renewed commitment by North West governors to leverage international partnerships for sustainable development. With increased focus on agriculture, industrialization, and economic transformation, the region is set to benefit from strategic investments that will create jobs, enhance food security, and drive infrastructural growth.
