Omoyele Sowore Released After Briefly Detained at Lagos Airport.
September 15th, 2024

Human rights activist and 2023 AAC presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, was briefly detained upon his arrival at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on Sunday. The incident occurred shortly after his return from the United States when Nigerian Immigration officials seized his passport, allegedly acting on direct orders to apprehend him.
Sowore, a well-known government critic and founder of Sahara Reporters, linked his detainment to his involvement in the upcoming protest movement, #FearlessINOctober. The activist accused the government of trying to suppress dissent and intimidate those pushing for political reforms.
Despite the temporary hold, Sowore was released after a brief period, and his passport was returned to him. His release comes amidst growing political tensions, as the #FearlessINOctober campaign gears up to challenge the status quo and rally citizens for greater accountability from the Nigerian government.
Sowore, who has faced previous arrests due to his activism, continues to advocate for freedom of speech, political reform, and an end to corruption in Nigeria.
