KADUNA, NIGERIA In a moving show of compassion and leadership, Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, on Sunday, June 23, 2025, paid a visit to the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital in Kaduna, where victims of the recent violent attack in Plateau State are receiving treatment.

The survivors, mostly residents of Kaduna State, were brutally attacked in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State while en route to attend a wedding in Quan Pan LGA. The incident, described by authorities and eyewitnesses as a premeditated massacre, claimed several lives and left others with varying degrees of injuries.

During his visit, Governor Sani listened to firsthand accounts from the victims, many of whom remain in shock over the horrific ordeal they experienced. “Their stories are heartbreaking,” the governor said. “These were innocent citizens who left home to celebrate with loved ones, only to be ambushed and attacked in the most barbaric manner.”

The governor expressed his relief at the medical progress being made, noting that the survivors are now in stable condition and receiving the best care possible under the supervision of the hospital’s medical team. He also directed the Medical Director to prioritize the victims’ treatment and ensure they receive psychosocial counseling to address the trauma they endured.

In a strong gesture of solidarity, Governor Sani announced that the Kaduna State Government will bear all medical expenses and rehabilitation costs of the victims. “We are not only taking responsibility for their medical care but also for their mental well-being and eventual reintegration into society,” he emphasized.

Touching on efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice, Governor Sani disclosed that arrests have already been made in connection with the attack, and the hunt for others involved is ongoing. He pledged to personally follow the case to ensure justice is served.

“We will not rest until every individual responsible for this heinous crime is apprehended and prosecuted. This is not just a Kaduna State matter it is a national tragedy that demands swift and firm action,” he stated.

Genesis of the Plateau Attack

The Plateau State killings have been linked to a renewed wave of communal violence and ethnic tension in parts of North-Central Nigeria. Security analysts believe the attack may have stemmed from long-standing land disputes, ethnic rivalries, and the activities of armed militias who exploit the region’s fragile security landscape.

The Mangu LGA, where the attack occurred, has seen intermittent clashes over the years between farmers and herders, with innocent travelers and residents often caught in the crossfire. Authorities say investigations are ongoing to determine whether this particular attack was ethnically motivated or the work of criminal bandits exploiting regional tensions.

Governor Uba Sani’s visit comes amid calls from civil society and community leaders for improved intelligence gathering and rapid security deployment across flashpoints in Plateau and neighboring states. Many believe that proactive action, rather than reactive responses, is crucial in preventing further loss of innocent lives.

In closing, the governor reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to the safety and dignity of all Kaduna citizens. “Our people deserve to live without fear — whether in Kaduna or elsewhere in Nigeria. We will do everything within our power to ensure that justice is served, and that this never happens again.”

The Kaduna State Government has also announced plans to engage with Plateau authorities and federal security agencies to bolster inter-state cooperation against violent extremism and community-based attacks.
