People with Disabilities in Jigawa Applaud Governor Umar Namadi’s Inclusive Leadership

Jigawa State’s People with Disabilities (PWDs) have commended Governor Malam Umar Namadi (Danmodi) for his exceptional commitment to inclusivity and empowerment. In an open letter of appreciation, the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD), Jigawa State Chapter, highlighted the governor’s impactful policies and unwavering dedication to improving the lives of persons with disabilities.

Fulfilling Promises, Transforming Lives
During his campaign, Governor Namadi pledged to prioritize the welfare of the PWD community. Today, the association proudly acknowledges that he has delivered on many of those commitments. The key milestones achieved under his administration include:
- Empowerment of 1,000 People with Disabilities – A groundbreaking initiative providing economic opportunities to PWDs across the state.
- Strategic Appointment of a PWD Advocate – The appointment of Comrade Habibu Murtala as Special Assistant on Matters Relating to People with Disabilities ensures dedicated representation at the state level.
- Support for Female Leaders with Disabilities – Women with disabilities have been empowered to lead and contribute to their communities.
- Employment Security for PWDs – The transition of 18 PWDs from J-Teach Volunteers to permanent and pensionable employment.
- Graduate Recruitment Drive – Eight graduates from the PWD community have been absorbed into the state workforce under the J-Teach initiative.
- Ramadan Welfare Packages – Food distribution to PWDs and Traditional Rulers, fostering inclusivity during the holy month.
- Provision of Artificial Limbs and Hands – Over 250 individuals with physical disabilities have received mobility aids, enhancing their quality of life.
- Expansion of Social Security Benefits – Increasing social security beneficiaries from 150 to 200 individuals.
- Increased Financial Support – The Social Security Allowance for PWDs has been raised from N7,000 to N10,000 per month.
- Educational Advancement – Scholarships for students with disabilities have doubled, ensuring access to quality education within and outside the state.
- Inclusive Economic and Employment Opportunities – PWDs are actively considered in various empowerment and employment programs.
A Model of Inclusive Governance
Governor Namadi’s administration is setting a benchmark for inclusive leadership in Nigeria. His 12-point agenda is yielding remarkable results, positioning Jigawa State as a beacon of hope for the PWD community.
