Abuja, Nigeria – July 10, 2025 – The electoral commission has announced a significant milestone in the ongoing political party registration exercise, with 129 associations now seeking registration. This follows the receipt of seven new applications since last week, underscoring the growing interest in Nigeria’s political landscape.

In a bid to enhance efficiency and transparency, the commission is set to launch a dedicated online portal – integrated into its Party Financial Reporting and Auditing System (PFRAS) – to facilitate the registration process. The portal, expected to go live after a final testing phase slated for the next week, promises to streamline applications and reduce processing time.

“We are committed to making the registration process as seamless as possible,” said Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information & Voter Education Committee. “The introduction of our PFRAS portal will not only speed up applications but also ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.”

The commission has uploaded the list of associations seeking registration to its website and other platforms, inviting public scrutiny and feedback. Guidelines for the application process will be issued shortly, outlining the next steps for eligible associations.

This development underscores the commission’s efforts to leverage technology in improving electoral processes and promoting transparency in party registration. As the portal’s launch approaches, stakeholders and prospective political parties are eagerly anticipating the opportunity to engage with the new system.
