President Tinubu Approves State Burial Committee for Late President Buhari

Abuja, Nigeria – In a poignant gesture, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the constitution of an Inter-Ministerial Committee to oversee the state funeral of former President Muhammadu Buhari. The committee, chaired by Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume, will plan and coordinate a dignified state burial for the late elder statesman.
The 16-member committee comprises key government officials, including:
- Secretary to the Government of the Federation (Chairman)
- Ministers of Finance, Budget, Defence, Information, Works, Interior, FCT, Housing, Health, Art, Culture, and Creative Economy
- National Security Adviser
- Special Advisers to the President
- Inspector General of Police
- Director-General, Department of State Services (DSS)
- Chief of Defence Staff
Burial Preparations in Daura Town
Sources indicate that the state burial will take place in Daura town, Katsina State, the hometown of the late President Buhari. The committee will work closely with the Katsina State government and the Buhari family to ensure a smooth burial process.
The Minister of Defence, Badaru Abubakar will play a crucial role in the committee as a member, contributing to the planning and coordination of the state burial.
Condolence Registers Opened
President Tinubu has directed all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to open condolence registers for the public to pay their respects to the late President Buhari. A central condolence register will also be opened at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, Abuja.
