Abuja, Nigeria – January 26, 2025President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will depart Abuja on Sunday, January 26, 2025, for Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, to attend the highly anticipated Africa Heads of State Energy Summit scheduled for January 27-28, 2025.

Driving Africa’s Energy Transformation:The summit, jointly organized by the Tanzanian government, the African Development Bank Group (AfDB), and the World Bank, seeks to advance the ambitious “Mission 300” initiative, which aims to provide electricity access to 300 million people in Africa by 2030.

This gathering of African leaders, private sector stakeholders, development partners, and civil society organizations will focus on forging actionable strategies to address Africa’s energy challenges.

Discussions will prioritize:

1. Expanding energy access to underserved regions.

2. Boosting renewable energy adoption and energy efficiency.

3. Mobilizing private sector investments to accelerate progress.

Agenda Highlights: Compact Presentations & Dar es Salaam DeclarationDay one of the summit will feature presentations from participating countries, including Nigeria, outlining their national energy compacts roadmaps to achieve universal energy access within the next five years.

On the second day, Heads of State will convene to endorse the Dar es Salaam Energy Declaration, which will define a unified strategy for Africa’s progress toward “Mission 300” goals.

President Tinubu’s Keynote: Nigeria’s Leadership in Energy AccessPresident Tinubu will deliver a keynote speech reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to achieving universal energy access and its leadership in Africa’s energy transformation. He will spotlight ongoing clean energy projects and Nigeria’s integrated energy strategy, aimed at delivering sustainable energy solutions across the continent.

Accompanying the President on this strategic mission are: Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs. Adebayo Adelabu, Minister of Power. Olu Verheijen, Special Adviser to the President on Energy. Senior government officials and energy experts.

Regional Collaboration for Sustainable Energy This summit represents a critical opportunity for Africa to harness its vast energy potential and ensure sustainable development for millions of people. With Nigeria’s robust energy policies and clean energy initiatives, President Tinubu’s leadership is expected to play a significant role in shaping the continent’s energy future.

President Tinubu is scheduled to return to Abuja immediately after the summit.
