The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has taken a decisive step in addressing alleged financial impropriety within its ranks. On Tuesday, June 24, 2025, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Araba Rufus Aiyenigba, announced the suspension of its National Chairman, Alhaji Shehu Gabam, along with National Auditor Nze Nnadi Clarkson and National Youth Leader Uchechukwu Chukwuma.

The suspended officials face serious allegations of gross financial misconduct, including embezzlement, misappropriation, and diversion of party funds. According to the party, overwhelming evidence links the officials to unauthorized financial transactions and personal enrichment schemes.

An interim investigative panel has been established to audit all financial records and recommend further disciplinary or legal actions. The Deputy National Chairman, Dr. Sadiq Umar Abubakar, will assume leadership of the party pending the outcome of the investigations.

The suspension of the top officials has significant implications for the party’s internal dynamics and its efforts to maintain transparency and accountability. The SDP’s decision to take decisive action against alleged financial impropriety demonstrates its commitment to upholding the principles of good governance.

The outcome of the investigation will determine the fate of the suspended officials and the future direction of the party. As the SDP navigates this challenging period, its ability to maintain stability and rebuild trust with its members and the public will be closely watched.
