Abuja, Nigeria – May 9, 2025 – The Federal Government’s National Communication Team, helmed by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, convened today in Abuja for a critical mid-term performance review.1 The high-level meeting focused on sharpening strategies to effectively broadcast the accomplishments of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration to both Nigerians and the global community, with a renewed commitment to transparency and accountability in public discourse.

Minister Idris opened the session expressing significant satisfaction with the enhanced collaboration among key government communication arms.2 He lauded the unified efforts of the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation, heads of public information agencies, and presidential media aides, noting that this “unity of purpose and coordination has significantly enhanced the quality, coherence, and reach of public messaging on the policies and achievements of the Tinubu Administration.”

According to the Minister, this strengthened partnership has led to more strategic, evidence-based government communication that is increasingly responsive to public concerns.3 He emphasized that this improved synergy has been instrumental in “building public trust and increasing awareness of the Renewed Hope Agenda’s impact across critical sectors such as the economy, infrastructure, health, education, [and] social services.”

Looking ahead, the National Communication Team resolved to intensify its efforts in showcasing tangible improvements in citizens’ lives.4 Key focus areas will include the rural economy, infrastructure development, agriculture, and the ongoing efforts to bolster national security – all central pillars of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

A cornerstone of their refined strategy will be the continuation and enhancement of town hall meetings across all states and the Federal Capital Territory. Minister Idris stressed that these forums are vital for “direct interaction between government representatives and the public, thereby fostering transparency, trust, and participatory governance.”5

“We are committed to building an inclusive national conversation that underscores the impact of government efforts while promoting civic participation and national unity,” stated a source close to the team, reflecting the meeting’s overarching goal.

The drive to maintain high standards of professionalism and speak with a unified voice in promoting the administration’s successes, both domestically and internationally, was a central theme echoed by the Minister.

The crucial meeting saw the attendance of a full complement of the nation’s top communication officials. Present were the Directors General of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Comrade Abdulhamid Dembos; Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Dr. Mohammed Bulama; National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mr. Lanre Issa-Onilu; Voice of Nigeria (VON), Mallam Jibrin Baba Ndace; and the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON), Dr. Olalekan Fadolapo. Also in attendance were the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Press Council, Dr. Dili Ezegha, and the Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Mr. Ali M. Ali.6

Key presidential aides present included Mr. Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy; Mr. Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication; Mr. Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication; Mr. Tope Ajayi, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity; Mr. Abdulaziz Abdulaziz, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Print Media; Mr. Otega Ogra, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Digital Media; Linda Akhigbe, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Strategic Communication; and Mr. Ali Audu, Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs.
