Tinubu Forwards 32 Fresh Ambassadorial Nominees to Senate, Expands Diplomatic Reshuffle
STATE HOUSE —PRESIDENTIAL BRIEFINGPresident Bola Ahmed Tinubu has transmitted a new list of 32 ambassadorial nominees to the Senate for screening and confirmation, marking the second batch of appointments following the initial submission of three names earlier in the week.In two separate letters addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, President Tinubu urged the upper chamber to fast-track the confirmation of 15 career diplomats and 17 non-career nominees.The latest list features a total of ten women—four career nominees and six non-career nominees.Prominent figures among the non-career nominees include former presidential aide Barr. Ogbonnaya Kalu (Abia); social commentator Reno Omokri (Delta); former INEC chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu; former Ekiti First Lady, Erelu Angela Adebayo; and former Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.Others on the list are former Katsina Speaker, Tasiu Musa Maigari; former Plateau Commissioner, Yakubu N. Gambo; and former UBEC Deputy Executive Secretary. Also nominated are former Plateau Senator, Prof. Nora Ladi Daduut; ex-Lagos Deputy Governor, Otunba Femi Pedro; former Aviation Minister, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode; and Barr. Nkechi Linda Ufochukwu (Anambra).Additional nominees include former Oyo First Lady, Florence Ajimobi; ex-Lagos Commissioner, Lola Akande; former Adamawa Senator, Grace Bent; former Abia Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu; Senator Jimoh Ibrahim (Ondo); and former Nigerian envoy to the Holy See, Ambassador Paul Oga Adikwu (Benue).The career ambassadorial nominees are: Enebechi Monica Okwuchukwu (Abia), Yakubu Nyaku Danladi (Taraba), Miamuna Ibrahim Besto (Adamawa), Musa Musa Abubakar (Kebbi), Syndoph Paebi Endoni (Bayelsa), Chima Geoffrey Lioma David (Ebonyi), Mopelola Adeola-Ibrahim (Ogun), Abimbola Samuel Reuben (Ondo), Yvonne Ehinosen Odumah (Edo), Hamza Mohammed Salau (Niger), Ambassador Shehu Barde (Katsina), Ambassador Ahmed Mohammed Monguno (Borno), Ambassador Muhammad Saidu Dahiru (Kaduna), Ambassador Olatunji Ahmed Sulu Gambari (Kwara), and Ambassador Wahab Adekola Akande (Osun).According to the Presidency, the new diplomats will be deployed to key countries and multilateral missions—including China, India, South Korea, Canada, Mexico, UAE, Qatar, South Africa, Kenya, the United Nations, UNESCO, and the African Union—after Senate confirmation.This submission follows President Tinubu’s earlier nomination of three ambassadors—Amb. Ayodele Oke (Oyo), Amb. Amin Mohammed Dalhatu (Jigawa), and Rtd. Col. Lateef Kayode Are (Ogun)—who are being considered for postings to the UK, USA, or France.President Tinubu affirmed that additional ambassadorial nominations will be unveiled in the coming days.
