A devastating incident occurred in the early hours of December 29, 2024, in Elpies Street, Mobile Quarters Dutse, Jigawa State, when a Toyota Corolla vehicle rammed into a residential house, causing a massive fire that engulfed four houses.
According to the Jigawa State Police Command, the driver, Abdullahi Abubakar Sadiq, 41, was suspected to be under the influence of alcohol when he lost control of the vehicle, which was owned by Muhammad Galadima, 32. The vehicle crashed into the residential building, collapsing the wall and driving straight into the living room where a woman and her children were sleeping.
Miraculously, the woman and her children escaped death, but the inferno destroyed four houses, leaving many families without homes. The police and firefighters responded quickly to the scene, extinguishing the fire and preventing further damage.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Galadima had deliberately handed over the vehicle’s keys to Sadiq, who confessed to not knowing how to drive. Both suspects and the vehicle are currently in custody, awaiting thorough investigation and prosecution.
The Jigawa State Police Command has assured the public that the suspects will be prosecuted accordingly, and the police will continue to work tirelessly to prevent such incidents in the future.
In a related incident, four teenage girls from the same family drowned in a pond in Malkaderi village, Gagarawa Local Government Area, Jigawa State, on Saturday. The police have confirmed the incident and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
