Tribune and Blueprint newspapers have issued public apologies to the Department of State Services (DSS) for falsely reporting that DSS officers invaded the Lagos State House of Assembly. The erroneous reports were published during the leadership crisis that rocked the Lagos Assembly.

However, it was later revealed that the DSS was actually present at the Assembly at the request of the Acting Clerk, who sought their assistance in preventing a potential security breach. The DSS subsequently demanded a public retraction and apology from the newspapers, citing the misleading nature of the reports.

In response, Blueprint’s Editorial Director, Mr. Clem Oluwole, issued a statement apologizing for the mistake and reassuring the DSS of the newspaper’s commitment to professionalism and accuracy in reporting.

This incident highlights the importance of Accurate Reporting and the need for media outlets to Verify Information before publishing. It also demonstrates that media outlets are willing to take responsibility for their mistakes and apologize when necessary.

The Lagos State House of Assembly has been at the center of a leadership crisis, with various reports emerging about the involvement of security agencies. However, this incident serves as a reminder of the need for Responsible Journalism and the importance of verifying information to avoid spreading misinformation.
