In a strategic move to reinvigorate governance and enhance public service delivery, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State has announced a minor cabinet reshuffle, relieving two commissioners of their appointments and swiftly naming their replacements.

The development was confirmed in a press statement issued on Thursday by the governor’s spokesperson, Malam Dauda Iliya, indicating that the Commissioners for Environment, and Intergovernmental and Special Duties, have been relieved of their duties.

Although the names of the sacked commissioners were not disclosed in the statement, sources within the Government House in Maiduguri confirmed that the reshuffle is part of ongoing efforts to reposition the administration for optimal performance as Zulum intensifies delivery in his second term.

New Appointees Step In

Governor Zulum has approved the appointments of Engr. Mohammed Habib as Commissioner for Environment and Ibrahim Hala Hassan as Commissioner for Intergovernmental and Special Duties. Both nominees are expected to bring renewed energy and technical competence into their respective ministries.

The Governor extended his appreciation to the outgoing officials for their service and wished them success in their future endeavours.

Education Gets a Boost: Prof. Balami to Head Secondary Education Board

In a related development, Governor Zulum has appointed Professor Yusuf Gana Balami as the new Executive Chairman of the Borno State Secondary Education Board, further strengthening his administration’s commitment to improving education standards across the state.

A renowned scholar in Educational Psychology, Prof. Balami hails from Hawul Local Government Area, in Southern Borno. He began his career with the Borno State Ministry of Education (1984–1988) before joining the University of Maiduguri, where he rose through the ranks to become a full professor in 2014.

With over three decades of experience in academia, administration, and education development, Prof. Balami is expected to play a pivotal role in overhauling the secondary education system in the state. He is a member of several national and international professional associations and has contributed extensively to scholarly literature in education.

Governor Zulum, in his congratulatory message, urged the new education board chairman to “bring his wealth of experience to bear in transforming Borno’s secondary education landscape, especially in the post-insurgency rebuilding era.”

Appointments Await Assembly Confirmation

All new appointments have been forwarded to the Borno State House of Assembly for legislative confirmation, as required by law.

This reshuffle, observers say, reflects Governor Zulum’s proactive leadership style and ongoing commitment to good governance, institutional reforms, and improved service delivery across all sectors.
