A former federal lawmaker and seasoned administrator, Yusif Shitu Galambi, has formally declared his intention to contest for the Jigawa Central Senatorial seat, accepting what he described as a widespread and collective call from constituents across the zone.
In an acceptance speech marked by humility and political clarity, Galambi, popularly known as Ajawan Dutse, expressed deep gratitude to the people of Jigawa Central for their sustained trust and support throughout his years in public service.
The senatorial district comprises Dutse, Gwaram, Birnin Kudu, Buji, Miga, Jahun, and Kiyawa local government areas, all of which he acknowledged as the backbone of the growing political momentum behind his aspiration.
Galambi highlighted his extensive experience, having served in the Jigawa State House of Assembly, represented the constituency in the House of Representatives for four consecutive terms, and later held key executive roles, including Commissioner for eight years and leadership of the National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO).
According to him, the decision to accept the senatorial call was driven by a shared vision to advance development, strengthen representation, and amplify the voice of Jigawa Central at the national level.
“Leadership is not about titles; it is about service, sacrifice, and results,” he stated, reaffirming his commitment to prioritizing the welfare of the people.
The former lawmaker outlined a five point agenda centred on effective representation, pro development policymaking, youth and women empowerment, improved access to education and healthcare, and expanded economic opportunities across the district.
He emphasized that his ambition transcends personal interest, describing it as a “collective mission” aimed at building a more prosperous and united Jigawa Central.
Galambi also called on traditional leaders, party stakeholders, youths, and women to rally behind the vision, stressing the need for unity and shared purpose as the political season gathers momentum.
Observers say his declaration could significantly shape the emerging dynamics of the Jigawa Central senatorial race, given his political experience and grassroots connection.
As the journey unfolds, all eyes will be on how this declaration translates into broader political alignment and support across the seven local government areas.
