Kano Government Debunks Sagagi’s Claims on Gov. Yusuf’s Political Realignment

Kano, Nigeria – April 3, 2026

The Kano State Government has strongly refuted allegations made by former Commissioner for Investment, Commerce and Industry, Shehu Wada Sagagi, describing his claims about Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf as misleading and unfounded.

Sagagi had alleged that Governor Yusuf defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) out of fear of being denied a second-term ticket under the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

However, in a statement issued on Friday, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, dismissed the claim as false and a deliberate attempt to mislead the public.

According to the government, the governor’s political realignment was driven by broader state interests rather than personal ambition.

“The decision was taken in the overriding interest of peace, unity, and sustainable development of Kano State,” the statement noted.

The government further explained that the move is part of a strategic effort to strengthen collaboration, consolidate developmental gains, and ensure inclusive governance across the state.

It emphasized that attributing the decision to fear of losing a party ticket undermines the governor’s political strength and widespread public support.

Governor Yusuf, the statement added, remains committed to his administration’s “Kano First” agenda, which focuses on infrastructure development, economic growth, and improved social welfare.

The government urged residents to disregard Sagagi’s remarks, insisting they do not reflect the true situation.

It also reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and uninterrupted delivery of democratic dividends.

“The administration will not be distracted by baseless claims but will remain focused on serving the people of Kano State,” Waiya stated.
