Youth Group Backs Nigerian Military, Seeks Stronger Partnership for Peace and National Security

ABUJA, NIGERIA – The Democratic Youth Assembly of Nigeria has pledged stronger support for the Armed Forces of Nigeria and expressed readiness to establish a strategic partnership with Defence Headquarters to promote peace, national unity, and public awareness on security matters.

The commitment was made during a courtesy visit by the leadership of the Assembly to Defence Headquarters, Abuja, where the group highlighted the need for greater collaboration between Nigerian youths and security institutions in tackling insecurity and strengthening national cohesion.

Representing the Chief of Defence Staff, General OO Oluyede, the Chief of Civil Military Relations, Rear Admiral SA Lawal, commended the initiative and described youth engagement as a critical factor in building a peaceful and secure Nigeria.

He noted that insecurity remains a major challenge, with terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, separatist activities, and other criminal threats affecting communities and national development. He, however, assured that the Armed Forces, alongside other security agencies, remain committed to protecting citizens and safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity.

The CDS representative urged youths to reject violence, extremism, misinformation, and criminal activities, while encouraging them to support security efforts through responsible citizenship, peaceful engagement, and credible information sharing.

Earlier, the National Coordinator of the Democratic Youth Assembly of Nigeria, Amb. Bashir Nasiru Garki, praised the sacrifices of the Nigerian Armed Forces in the fight against insecurity, stressing the need to counter misinformation and promote public understanding of military operations.

He called for a formal partnership between the Assembly and Defence Headquarters to strengthen peace advocacy, national unity, and security awareness among young Nigerians.

The visit ended with the presentation of a souvenir to the Chief of Defence Staff in recognition of his leadership, commitment to troop welfare, and service to Nigeria.
