Aspirants Step Down as Kano Central Moves Toward Unified 2027 Political Front

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has successfully resolved the prolonged dispute surrounding the Kano Central Senatorial ticket, leading to the emergence of former Kano State Governor, Ibrahim Shekarau, as the consensus candidate for the 2027 elections.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.

According to the statement, the breakthrough followed a high-level reconciliation meeting convened by Governor Yusuf in Abuja, where aspirants and critical stakeholders agreed to unite in the interest of political stability, party cohesion, and the future of Kano State.

As part of the peace agreement, eight aspirants voluntarily stepped down from the contest and endorsed Senator Shekarau as the consensus flagbearer under the platform of the All Progressives Congress for Kano Central Senatorial District.

Kano Central, widely regarded as Nigeria’s largest senatorial district, consists of 15 local government areas with an estimated population of over 10 million people, making the consensus arrangement a significant political development ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Governor Yusuf commended the aspirants for prioritizing the collective interest of the people over personal ambition, describing their decision as a demonstration of political maturity, sacrifice, and commitment to democratic values.

The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to dialogue, inclusion, and consensus-building as critical tools for sustaining political stability and development in Kano State.

He expressed optimism that the agreement reached among all parties would further strengthen unity within the party and enhance Kano’s political influence at the national level.

Speaking on behalf of the aspirants, Usman Bala said their decision to withdraw from the race followed Governor Yusuf’s intervention and the deep respect they have for Senator Shekarau.

He described the Governor’s peace initiative as timely and strategic, noting that it successfully united all contending interests toward a common political objective.

In his remarks, Senator Shekarau praised Governor Yusuf for facilitating reconciliation among the aspirants and thanked the contenders for supporting his candidacy and other APC candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.
