DUTSE, JIGAWA – The newly elected executives of the Jigawa Online Media Chapel have reaffirmed their commitment to fostering a productive working relationship with the Jigawa State Government following a courtesy visit to the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Governor, Malam Hamisu Muhammad Gumel.
The delegation, led by the Chapel Chairman, Sani Labaran, visited the CPS at the Government House in Dutse on Monday as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration between the state’s online media community and the government.
Speaking during the meeting, Labaran commended Governor Umar Namadi for supporting the establishment of the Jigawa Online Media Chapel, describing its creation as a significant milestone in the growth and recognition of digital journalism in the state.
He also acknowledged the contributions of the Chief Press Secretary and the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Jigawa State Council, Isma’il Ibrahim Dutse, for their roles in facilitating the successful formation and inauguration of the Chapel.
According to the Chairman, online media has become a strategic platform for informing, educating, and engaging citizens on government policies, programmes, and development initiatives. He appealed for sustained government support to enable members of the Chapel to carry out their professional responsibilities effectively.
Labaran noted that with adequate collaboration and institutional support, the Online Media Chapel would continue to promote transparency, accountability, responsible journalism, and inclusive development across Jigawa State.
Responding, the Chief Press Secretary, Malam Hamisu Muhammad Gumel, congratulated the newly elected executives and expressed the Jigawa State Government’s readiness to work closely with the Chapel.
He reaffirmed Governor Umar Namadi’s commitment to supporting the Nigeria Union of Journalists and all media organizations operating in the state, emphasizing that the Online Media Chapel is an important partner in advancing the administration’s open governance agenda.
“We are prepared to support you just as we support other media organizations. Every media platform is important to this government, and our doors remain open for constructive engagement,” Gumel stated.
The CPS urged members of the Chapel to uphold the ethics of journalism by ensuring accuracy, fairness, and professionalism in their reports, stressing that credible journalism remains essential for strengthening public trust and enhancing Jigawa State’s image.
